The diggers had to wait until Wascana Lake was frozen so they wouldn't sink into the mud. They got more cold weather than the prayed for; It is the coldest January since 1937. Key Lake, Saskatchwan was the coldest place on Earth last week. It was -52.6 C or -66.7 F. Mars was a balmy -40.

It was so cold the day these pictures were taken that the digital camera froze and lost a digit.
They are attacking it from both the West and the East ends.
They are even doing it 24 hours a day with flood lights at night.
They have to finish it before the spring run-off starts or the creek will flood farm lands to the South of Regina. Luckily this is the coldest January for over 30 years so we don't expect the ice to melt until August.
